Comparing MCA Settlement With Refinancing
Settlement and refinancing solve different problems. One tries to reduce what's owed; the other replaces existing obligations with a new one. Comparing them carefully matters.
Side by side
- Settlement: seeks a reduced payoff; depends on funder agreement; may involve default risk, fees, and credit impact.
- Refinancing / buyout: new financing pays off existing positions; requires qualifying; total cost may be higher or lower; payments may be more manageable if the term is longer.
- Restructuring: modifies existing terms; total may not change.
How to compare
Compare the total you would pay under each path (including all fees), the periodic payment and monthly equivalent, the effect on cash flow, and the risks — such as legal exposure during settlement or new liens with refinancing. Our refinance comparison and settlement scenario calculators help organize these numbers.
